Adopting a school means your dental practice partners with a local primary school to provide ongoing oral health education using our 'magical teaching pack', as well as provide access to dental provision for children in your chosen school that do not have a dentist.
The Train the Trainer programme is the precursor to the Adopt a School programme. This 2-hour verifiable CPD course equips dental professionals with the tools, resources, and confidence to support primary school teachers to deliver engaging oral health education sessions to their children. The course covers current epidemiology, the psychology behind magic and its power as a teaching and distraction tool and an introduction to our 'magical.
Yes, you can. We can set up Magic Dentist care plans in your practice. These care plans can be funded by raising money in the practice, through donations and by other means. Contact Nicki Rowland at nicki@themagicdentist.co.uk to find out more.
Go to either The Magic Dentist Shop or the Education Packages tab and click Add To Cart. Follow the payment steps. Once you sign up, you’ll receive access to the Train the Trainer course and Adopt a School teaching resources and guidance on how to approach and work with schools in your area.
Pick a primary school in a low socio-economic demographic as close to your practice as possible. Personalise the letter template in the Adopt a School pack to send to the school. If you receive a positive response, follow up with a phone call or school visit to discuss dates to teach the teachers and possibly support with the delivery of lessons.
No. The training is designed to be simple and practical, giving you everything you need to confidently deliver sessions, even without teaching experience. You do not need to be GDC registered either. Our expert team have written the scripts for you and the teachers. All you have to do is print them off and deliver the content.
This is flexible, but we would recommend a half day in the school teaching the teachers and Magic Dentist 'Smile Champions' how to deliver our magical teaching pack and learn the 5 oral health magic tricks. Some practices visit schools once per term, while others engage more frequently to support the teaching sessions depending on availability.
Smile Champions are Year 5 and 6 pupils who promote good oral health by leading by example and encouraging healthy habits like brushing twice a day. They support younger pupils and assist with activities, helping to make oral health education fun and engaging across the school. They also help raise awareness through simple initiatives and by sharing key messages with classmates and in assemblies.
There are 6 lessons and 6 workshops. You will receive ready-made lesson plans, power point presentations, quizzes, 2 animations, workbooks, a 20-minute Magic Dentist movie, magic trick templates, homework sheets and stickers with a QR code that takes the child to a brushing animation.
Yes. Embracing our powerful CSR model helps strengthen community relationships, provides valuable networking opportunities, promotes your practice locally and elevates your reputation, supports preventive dentistry, and can be a rewarding team-building activity. The Adopt a School programme also provides verifiable CPD for your Magic Dentist practice leads which includes learning oral health magic tricks that can be used in practice as well as in schools. The programme helps to boost team morale and promote a sense of purpose. In essence, participating as a practice is an excellent way to bring your team together, attract the next generation of patients, and give back to the local community in a meaningful way.
Yes. We have Fiona Dwyer from https://fdpr.co.uk/ who is an ex senior reporter for ITV's Calendar News turned PR coach in our team. More recently, Kate Hemingway from https://www.katehemingwaymedia.co.uk/ has joined us. She has 20 years experience working as the Senior Producer and video journalist for ITV's Good Morning Britain. She can also support your practice to access newspapers, radio stations and TV channels and do in-house videography herself.
Our Adopt a School programme costs £1,500 per school. This includes the verifiable CPD for your Magic Dentist practice leads, learning the 5 oral health magic tricks and access to all the Adopt a School teaching resources. Many dental practices are funding this themselves seeing it 'As the right thing to do'. However, some primary schools may cover the cost themselves. We have also had local businesses paying for the Adopt a School programme to support children in the local community as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility model. We have many ideas at the charity as to how to access these funds so send us an email at info@themagicdentist.co.uk to find out more.
Yes. In the Adopt a School package, there are written instructions and videos of Callum showing how to make and learn the tricks. However, if you need any further support, contact info@pmp-consulting.co.uk.
Our charity is partnering with MPs across the country to take the Adopt a School programme to children most in need. MPs know their constituency and the demographics within it. This means we can take 'The path of least resistance' to access the children most in need of our help and dental provision. We hold regular round table events with our partnered MPs. This is a wonderful opportunity to discuss the impact we are having and encourage dental practices, primary schools and sponsors to attend and get involved.
